Hawes Side Academy School Uniform

After consulting the school community it has been decided to retain the current ‘red’ school uniform as our Academy uniform. The option to wear a white shirt and tie will be available from September in addition to the polo shirt option, this is due to the wishes of our surveyed pupils and almost half of all votes cast wanting a shirt and tie. From September the sweatshirts will be V neck. Both sweatshirt and cardigan will have updated details to reflect our move to academy status. The rest of the uniform stays as was, navy blue skirt/tights/socks or black trousers. These minor changes will be phased in to allow existing uniform to be worn until it needs replacing.

Thank you to all who took the time to vote on the changes to our uniform and your continued support.

Below are some photos of the updated uniform for September

There is nothing wrong with the uniform the children currently wear.I feel and my children do that it looks individual and smart. It is fantastic that the school is becoming an Academy but why change the uniform? The suggestions you have made in my opinion look dated and far too similar to other schools in the area.

    Regards

Not fond on any of the colours, Hawes Side is well known for its distinctive red and navy colour code and i think the children look smart. changing them to a different colour there just going to mix in with the rest of the other schools. Of course the children are going to opt for something different as its a change for them.

I voted to stay the same, meaning a red jumper but would like to see the red and blue tie brought back with grey skirt\trousers which looks much smarter.

    Re school uniform changes
The change of colour is great, especially if it make the children happy to wear it, but I do think that shirts and ties are impractical at this age, not as warm in the winter and harder work for us mums to keep clean and tidy.
As ambassadors of the school surely a uniform that looks smart and tidy is what they need….in any colour

The name of the school is the same so why change the uniform.Ihink the red stands out and looks smart the others look drab.I also think polo tops are best as ties are part of growing up when you go to highschool. When i drive to work isee lots of blue and grey but only one red hawes sides so why would you want to change what you have built for years.

‘The rest of the uniform stays as it was…… Black trousers’
I thought the trousers were grey at moment?

I think introducing a shirt and tie is a much smarter option then the polo tshirt.

Thanks for your comment. The Nursery onsite is a privately run concern and not part of the school. We have and welcome the close links with them but they set their own requirements re-uniform.

Thanks for the comment, the issue around trousers is a grey area, excuse the pun. Children have been wearing a combination of black and grey for a number of years. Originally, the colour was ideally a dark ‘charcoal grey’ but often the colour grey we see in school varies from the preferred dark to very light depending on where the trousers were purchased from. Following the uniform consultation it was decided that the best way to achieve uniformity was to go for black colour trousers as this is the same wherever it is purchased from. I hope this explains things. Please also remember that the changes are being phased in so exsisting uniform can still be worn. Thank you for your support.

If the boys are changing to black would it not make sense to change the girls to black also? Having them both the same would make the uniform much smarter. Just a thought!

  13. Cheryl Dempsey says:

Just a quick question. Will the PE uniform stay the same? Thanks

  14. Mr Glynn says:

Yes the PE uniform is to stay the same at present.
